on life accomplishments

taken Dec 2011

Over Thanksgiving break, I had the opportunity to go see a couple of old friends. Not that my friends are old, but they are friends that I have claimed as mine for five or so years now and so that gets them the label of 'old friends'. I love them. It was so great to get to go spend some time with and talk to them about all of the things going on in their lives, as well as reflect on what is going on in my life. I ended up having a strange moment of insight that really made me realize that in my little life, I have done so much. Let me share:

I am 22 years old. In that time, I have:
-- graduated high school in the top 10% of my class
-- learned to play four instruments decently well
-- been a part of more than 30 theatrical productions (starting at age 10)
-- travelled to ten different states (still working on visiting more)
-- gotten married to my best friend
-- attended two colleges and kept a pretty great GPA
-- graduated from said colleges with my Associates from one and Bachelors from the other
-- started working in my chosen career field (as opposed to graduating and working some other job)
-- and so much more!

As I was thinking about all that I have done, I started thinking about all the things that I wanted to do while I was in high school. To be honest, only one important thing is missing from my list. I mean, there are still other little things that I would want to do, but there is only one thing that I have to do. You know? And that fact kind of ... blew me back a little bit. I couldn't believe how much I have done in such a short amount of time. And the fact that some of the other girls in high school talked about how hard it would be to start a family before the age of 30 because they won't have done everything else they wanted to yet. But... I mean, I'm there! Even if I wanted to postpone having a family, there really is nothing left that I want to do. I could work more, but I'm already in the profession that I chose to do and went to college for, so I don't have to work extra hard for that. I'm completely graduated, Daniel is almost done, and I just ... Wow. It's a little bit crazy to think about. And quite a bit liberating, too. I have done a lot of hard things and come out just fine. It makes me feel so awesome and excited for the future.

Our Thanksgiving Break

Our Thanksgiving break was simply marvelous. It consisted of lots of sleeping in and movie watching and playing games and hanging out with family. It was a very much needed break that I absolutely loved and that we very much needed. I got to have a lunch with my sisters which was buckets of fun. Husband and I went and saw some of the activities that were going on for Holly Days and Daniel helped my dad to put up Christmas lights on the house. They look so good. I am so excited for Christmas and super happy that we are finally able to start celebrating the season and decorating and listening to music and stuff.

Happy Holidays! Now it's back to school time for three more weeks. Yay!

Daniel's phone wanted a turn

and so we will let him have it.
